Givin' you bitches some bitches.

Bitches love bitches.

I really wish I had an idea for these two. I love drawing them. Looks like they're doomed to be doodles in my notebooks for the time being... hmm...

I really enjoy the work of Vivienne Medrano, artist and creator of the Zoophobia webcomic and charactrers and I wanted to try doing a weeny sketch dump style like her. Although it's more like a sketch clutter with only two friggin characters. Details, details.

Anyway, I hope everyone has had a lovely Christmas. I certainly have; got lots of wonderful gifts, ate amazing food and got to spend time with friends and family. Best times. I've got some Crumbs Christmas story ideas which will be put into effect once the comic is launched. Next year you'll be seeing that for sure!

I also created a picture for Ashleigh's birthday but I haven't uploaded that due to them featuring character designs she doesn't want to release until her work is complete. I'll only upload it with her permission. It's only polite.

Last Christmas I gave you my heart I had no artistic inspiration whatsoever so I'm very thankful that my brain juices haven't dried up with the festivities. I wonder what's different this year. Hmm.

Anyhow, if this is the last entry of 2012, have a happy new year! Hopefully I won't be welcoming 2013 in as shitfaced and alcohol poisoned as I did this year... eheh. Not my proudest moment.

Crumbs Fanart: Characters In Flight

EDIT: Look at her colouring method! It's so awesome! DO IT. http://rachelrutherforddoodles.blogspot.co.uk/2012/12/fixing-my-doodle.html

I actually have no words to say how amazing this is. LOOK. JUST.. LOOK AT IT.

Artwork by Rachel Rutherford

Srsly woman, share more of your artwork and projects. THE WORLD HAS TO KNOW. I HAVE TO KNOW.

OK, now I'm off to stare at this for a few hours. Duuuuuuuhhhhhhhhhh.....

Crumbs: Concept Art and Character Analysis

Buckle up lovelies, this is going to be a long one.

Throughout this week as I am beginning work on developing the story, characters and relationships, I decided a good way to explore this would be through concept art. I intend to work on the writing aspects very soon but I consider myself to be quite a visual person and actually seeing the scenery, characters and so on are a must in helping me portray as much as I can correctly through writing.

I tried to do something different with each concept, exploring a character interaction or emotion that hadn’t yet been shown or properly developed. This is due to my desire to challenge myself and push Crumbs into something truly different and unique. I believe it’s all coming together nicely but I would definitely appreciate any advice or critique so that I can continue to aim for a high standard in my work. Please don’t be shy, you’d be helping me a lot and I’d be forever grateful!

Here is the work I have done over the week. I aimed to get one finished piece of work a day at least and I am proud to say I have achieved that. In this entry, I am going to discuss the piece, the general idea behind it and what I like about it as well as anything I feel I could improve upon.

Tweak’s Flashback

Heh, sorry to say we’re starting on a bit of a sad note with this one. I can’t recall whether I was experiencing anything particularly gruelling emotionally to come up with this result. All I know was that I wanted to get more practice drawing a squab (baby pigeon to those not in the know) and explore a bit of Tweak’s psyche, showing why he is as paranoid and twitchy as he is. Whether this is just a horrible nightmare or an actual flashback of his hasn’t been decided yet. But it would certainly make a lot of sense as well as explain a lot about Tweak.

This picture was challenging in the sense that I’m not known for drawing anything particularly violent or macabre and I wanted to see what I was capable of on that front. I also wanted to create something that, while you didn’t see the full horror of what was going on, you’d get the idea from the shadow, blood and tearful baby pigeon. Ashleigh gave me the idea to make the shadow a red shade, which ended up being the reason most of the picture has a red tone. I think it works quite nicely for the most part.

I like to think I’ve managed to achieve that and I’m certainly not disappointed in my first try but I think I need more practice and more opportunities to create such a piece. I’m also a bit worried that as effective as the red tone is, it’s distracting from Tweak, who is meant to be one of the main focuses. Any opinions on this would be much appreciated.

Cold but Warm

Drawn to make Rachel not kill me after making Tweak suffer such a horrifying vision and also to explore some of Tweak and Lilac’s relationship. Lilac has a very strong protective mother hen instinct with all of her friends and will always protect any weaker pigeon she comes across. This leads to Tweak becoming very close to her and adopting her as something of a surrogate mother, although this is neither confirmed or denied by the two. I don’t recall exactly why the picture became so winter themed but I’m going to assume I was cold at the time. Besides, it seems quite fitting.

I always want to improve my backgrounds and actually create a world for the pigeons to live in rather than have them float in midair in a void of nothingness. I think I’ve done quite well in creating a wintery early morning setting with that little bit of frost in the air. I actually feel a bit chilly looking at this... although that could just be the fact that I’m freezing at the moment.

I still need to get better at backgrounds and I’m a bit worried Lilac is quite hard to spot, blending in slightly with the sky. Again, any feedback is much appreciated!

I’m Outta Here

You might remember the sketch of Pink flying I did in Scotland last week.  It’s now been coloured and I decided to throw in a background and Green. Because... why not I suppose. This one didn’t really have any particular character interaction in mind, just an everyday scene you’d expect to see of a pigeon but with Pink and Green instead. Although I suppose you could say Pink got tired of Green’s bullshit and flew away. Whatever floats your boat.

I was quite lazy with this one I feel as I didn’t really have much to show in the background. It’s an angled shot looking up at the sky, all of which you can see clouds, sky and the corner of a building. I quite like the clouds and Pink and Green’s poses but other than that, there’s nothing particularly spectacular to mention, I think.

Flying High

This one needs a lot of context. It’s Rachel’s fault. On the way home from college on Wednesday night, she was saying how cruel I was to draw the ‘Tweak’s Flashback’ image and said that I could have put his paranoia and nervousness to a coke addiction- meaning the drink. With this hilarious understanding in mind, we both came up with the idea that Green, badgered by Lilac, decides to do something nice for Tweak and realises he has a love for coca cola. However, due to a misunderstanding, he ends up acquiring a bag of the powdered drug instead. He mistakes it for sugar, coming to the conclusion that “Eh, coke is mostly sugar anyway so what’s the difference?”

After Tweak has some, Green becomes curious and tries it as well... and... well... this. And yes, this is going to be in the comic. Goddamnit, Rachel.

This one took me all of Thursday to do. I had a bit of difficulty with the space background as I didn’t want it to appear juvenile but not too complex or busy either. I wanted to make it obvious they were (or believed they were) in space, totally tripping balls. I’m happy with the lighting and shading, I believe I’m improving on that part. Also, those faces crack me up. I made it my new twitter header pic. It looks like they’re looking up at me in wonder. I AM YOUR GOD NOW. BRING ME YOUR VIRGINS.

Crumbs Secondary Cast Line Up

Here we have some new character designs, although the middle one you may recognise if you’ve been following this blog for longer than a year. Scarlet’s design, mainly the legs, have been revamped. In all honesty, I didn’t really have much of an idea of what to do with her character from the beginning, hence why she hasn’t made much of an appearance until now. However, I’ve always intended to have her in the series and have been working on developing her post haste. I will also discuss a little bit about the three pigeon’s relationships with one another.

Scarlet is a Pouter pigeon that has been shown in many pigeon shows and won many awards due to her unique form. Now, she intends to bring down the Breadwinners, enlisting Blue’s help and training her to become an effective fighter should things get nasty. She has a very low opinion of Ginger, seeing him as a “snivelling brown beaking coward”, not worthy of her time or sympathy. Putting her views of the Dove Above aside, she is fond of Hope and admires her ability to forgive others for what they’ve done. Scarlet is much more likely to hold a grudge.

The other two pigeons have not been introduced before. The one on the left is named Ginger (different from Underdog Ginger, I should stress), a tumbler pigeon working in the breadwinner society. He is aware of their corrupt behaviour but his need to feel respected and admired is higher than his morals and principles. Because of this contributing to his low self image, he is quite easily offended, paranoid of other pigeons opinions of him and prone to hopping on anyone’s back if they disagree with him or voice their low view of the Breadwinners. He comes across as despising Blue but is secretly jealous of her bravery towards the society. He is quite cowardly, easily mislead and despises himself for getting in too deep with the society. Ginger is terrified of Scarlet, secretly relieved that she keeps away from him as much as possible. He has strong romantic feelings for Hope but feels that due to his self hatred and position in the Breadwinners that he is not worthy of her.

The one on the right is Hope, a devout believer in the Dove Above. Born from a 'long pure bloodline' of doves, she lives her life by the stories and morals that the Dove has taught. However, she is aware that they are not to be taken literally and what tales are outdated, which has her at odds with her family and say the Dove punished those thoughts with her disability, where she was born without front toes leaving her vulnerable to attack. This is one reason as to why she avoids physical conflict (although she keeps her beak sharp if need be) but it is mainly due to the fact that she doesn't want to spread anymore fear or hatred in the world as “there is more than enough already”. She is kind, accepting of others regardless of lifestyle and very forgiving but she can be quite wary of anything new or unusual, preferring to avoid Jay. She admires Scarlet’s bravery but is slightly scared of her and disagrees with her methods, especially disliking that Blue is her student in combat. While she doesn't agree with the Breadwinners or Ginger’s general attitude, she feels he is worthy of redemption... but that he needs to realise that for himself.

Anyway, that’s everything from this week. However, I figure I should also share a Christmas Card design that I did featuring Jay, Green and Pink. Some of you will actually be getting this on a card! Aren’t you all lucky? Run, RUN FOR THE HILLS!
I’m not gonna bother analysing this one, just a little funny Christmas caper.

(Don't worry, when the comic starts, I won't be using my own handwriting for the speech bubbles.)

And that's pretty much all I have to share. Whoo, what a long ride. OK, everybody off, glad to have you, don't forget to visit the gift shop!

Seriously, if you actually read all of this without wanting to kill me, thank you <3

Christmas With Friends

OK, back from Scotland now. And here's the big picture I was talking about!

Featuring Ashleigh (the one in the middle with the DO NOT WANT face) and Rachel (the unfortunate soul whose back I'm cracking).

I made this picture for quite a few reasons. I wanted to draw my friends again. I wanted to make a strongly themed Christmassy thing. I wanted to try more interesting poses and expressions. I wanted to make something resembling a background. I wanted to push myself to make a picture that I wouldn't instantly hate a few hours later.

I finished this picture two days ago and I still like it.

I mean don't get me wrong, it's not perfect and I can spot a few flaws but I feel I'm on the right track with this. If I keep up to this standard and keep aiming to improve from that, I think I'll get to a point where I won't automatically think what I do is awful.

It's good to be humble feel the need to constantly improve your work. It keeps you going and can help you produce wonderful pieces you didn't think you were capable of. However, there's a thin line between being aware of your artistic flaws with the intention to improve on them or being aware and deciding you and your work will be forever worthless. It's very easy to cross that line, believe me I know. But we need to start giving ourselves more credit than we have been. If everyone gave up feeling that they weren’t good enough, we wouldn’t have many of the fine art pieces, inventions, books, movies and so on that we know and love today.

Just something to think about.

Sketches Done In Scotland

... yeah, basically that.

Wanted to draw Snaps and Muffin again.
Someone forgot to turn off their swag, hurrhurr.

Pink flying dramatic-like.

There's a lot of red sketchiness, isn't there? Good times.

I've been working on a full coloured picture as well but I don't want to upload it until both Ashleigh and Rachel have seen it and have given me permission to do so. It has them in it, you see. I feel I should ask permission to share a picture with someone in it from that particular person. I'm strange like that, I suppose.

Also to the darlings who commented to make me feel better after I went a bit whiny in the last entry, you guys are awesome and ilu and good juju will be coming your way. Gift wrapped and everything! <3

Thanks guys.

Passed By The Skin Of my Teeth! Also, Emma Has Feelings!

Well, that might be a tad dramatic. I got 48 for my powerpoint/VIVA (I was expecting that, didn't think it was as successful as the rest of my work) and 58 for my project proposal. I try to aim for 60 and was TWO EFFING POINTS SHORT. Ow. Right in the thinking muscle.

I'm hoping this will be my motivational drive to improve. I mean it;s quite hard to convey what I want to achieve in such an academic, especially as the tutors want to hear how you will earn sustainable income from this (pfftttBWAHAHAHAHAHAHA *sob*) but that aside, I've let my work and productivity slip since handing in the work, mainly due to...

Urgh. I've been feeling down.

Long story short, I can have intense mood swings that can make me feel like utter crap for DAYS. I can feel awesome one minute and just downright AWFUL about myself the next. And that... happened. Pretty badly. I manage to hide them because I don't want people to worry about me and think I have depression or something like that. I honestly don't. But I can feel bad about various things and it can knock me down for a good week or two. And because I'm a stupid stubborn moron with more pride than... a very prideful thing, I don't talk to anyone about it. And I'm still not. Because of the aforementioned reason.

But I think I'm coming out of it and I'm going to be much more productive with my work, college and otherwise. I'm hoping to avoid feeling that crumminess again. At least, not feel it again anytime soon.

Anyway enough of my bullshit, that's not why you're here at all! Here's a new picture that I've messed about with. Lets move on to that before I wimp out and delete that entire paragraph.

Wanted to dick around with a new eye style and try and improve on backgrounds a bit. I don't know what's up with that tree, maybe someone threw someone else into it. Or I can't draw trees yet. One of the two.

I want to try and dabble in things that aren't pigeon based. Draw more humans and other animals and animal people because that's fun to do. I also want to play my XBox more often and stop being so goddamn sad.

Anyway, I haven't done MUCH college wise, mainly because I haven't been able to come in from that massive snow dump that decide to stick around for a few days. I might not be able to go to Scotland this weekend to visit family which I REALLY WANTED TO DO, THANKS A LOT JACK FROST.

Oh, go see Rise of the Guardians, it's pretty bamf. Cliche in some parts but mostly awesome. Bunny is the best.

So yeah, onward to happier times and more productivity! I hope you're all feeling OK as well!

Green Wishes You A Merry Christmas

"No I bloody don't! I want these sodding lights off of me!!"

... And a Happy New Yeeeeear!

... there's a bigger version here, sadly Blogger would only accept a weeny Green. I can't say I blame it, Green is a bit of a fat fuck:

Yeah, random moving Christmas thing. Something to pop on here until I put the actual Christmas image up. Enjoy!

I Haven't Drawn Anything For A While

I suck. Have a pug.

Now I'm off to bed in hope that I don't still suck tomorrow. And that my project proposal wasn't a total and utter bonk.

Crumbs: Proposal and Character Sheets

Yikes, I've kind of been slipping on the whole updating thing. Sorry about that. But I have news to share, all Crumbs related!

My presentation was today and I believe I was successful for the most part, covering the majority of what I intended to. I was questioned a bit on the whole income part and budget so I reckon I should look more into that. It's admittedly something I've overlooked for the most part as gaining profit isn't a priority with the comic. But everything else they seemed to be happy with.

My proposal has also been handed in a day early so I don't have to go in tomorrow. Saves money for train fare and I get to have a lie in. Getting up at 7am was killer after a long time of forgetting that time even existed. Anyway, I digress. I hope that the proposal is good enough to get a pass at the very least. Writing what I want to do and why I want to do it isn't a strength of mine (this blog should be proof of that) and it makes me nervous to think that the dissertation still needs to be done.

Anyway, let's get to the real meet of this entry: the character sheets.

They're finally done.

At least until I decide I hate them and change them again. Hopefully that won't happen but I'm not holding my breath.

Anyway, without further ado, here they are. It's great to now have a clearer idea of who these characters are and what their general overall personality is like. It's quite easy to forget when you don't have it written down somewhere. That, or I'm just a derp.

EDIT: Now without typos!

Crumbs Character Line Up

It only occurred to me recently that I hadn't drawn all of the main pigeons (or the 'breadwinners' as they'll be known... it'll make sense in context) together for some time now and definitely not with the new addition, Jay. So while doing sketches for their new character sheets, I figured I might as well do a lineup. I have to admit, I'm quite happy with how it came out, they don't look too shabby together!

I can definitely see the improvement from my previous work. Lets have a little comparison of the poster/lineup I did a few months ago, shall we?

Pretty different. The logo is it's own unique font and the pigeons look quite a bit better (at least in my opinion), with the shading making them come more to life and spring off of the page more. Also, Scarlet hasn't been written out, she will be showing up in the comic. She's just not a main character and I have a few ideas for her...

I'm also making more of an effort with my backgrounds as well. While the new lineart picture isn't really a good example of that, you'll definitely see improvement in work I will be uploading in the future. But as far as this goes, I wanted to give Crumbs something of a gritty dirty look, illustrated by the splatters of paint often on the ground. That isn't shown at all in the old lineup, apart from the horribly placed splat over the title. Meh.

While not terrible, I can safely say the new one is an improvement. Do you agree or not? Feel free to share your opinions and suggestions.

Remember when I helped animate something involving this?

And this?

Well, it's finally online for your viewing pleasure!

Reflect or Forget!

So I haven’t really done much in terms of reflection this year. Oops.

Despair not, though. As practice for my research, proposal, presentation and dissertation, I shall reflect on some of the work I have done the previous week. Here we have two experiments, one being a logo for a friend’s business card and the other an asset/style experiment for Stina’s project.

Kat’s logo

Well I suppose it’s technically more of a design for the card but the intention is to represent Kat’s talent of floor managing and set design. In order to portray this effectively, given the simple style shown, I used a small set and camera as reference and created the set using shapes and gradients. The changing colours give a sense of shading and also makes it less flat to look at, more visually pleasing. I’m quite happy with this as my skills are more in character design and so designing a logo/card design was quite different for me.  It has given me the chance to try something different and expand my skills, which will be extremely useful- people won’t just want characters created.

Asset/style concept for Stina’s brief

Rachel and I are working on the projections for Stina’s brief, which will be shown on the wall and floor as her dancers perform. Due to the music and tone of the music and dance, we’re intending to keep a rather grungy style, with outdoors settings, graffiti, city backdrop and so on. As you can see, I have used the shapes again to create a lamppost. This started as showing Rachel how quickly I could create an asset (10-20 minutes if anyone’s interested) and then, due to my inability to leave a lamppost hanging in midair, I took the chance to create a background and a potential tone for the animation. This is a potential idea that may or may not change, depending on whether Stina is happy with it or not. We’re also trying out various simplistic styles (the way the light is portrayed was Rachel’s idea, I hasten to add) and want to add in some rotoscoping if we are able. So technically this one is a work in progress. There will be more to show soon.

So hopefully that’s decent enough development and reflection. I need to practice that sort of thing after all. And I might as well do a basic weekly plan, just like the good old foundation degree Animation days.

Tomorrow
I have an academic writing class and a lecture that day but with the amount of time I have between after said lecture and getting the train, I hope to get cracking on some proposal planning, as I am falling a bit behind on that. By the end of the night, I hope to have most of the plan done.

Wednesday
Today Rachel and I are planning on showing Stina the ideas/assets we have so far so she can tell us whether or not she’s happy with them and then plan the next ideas accordingly.

Thursday
I’m not sure if we need to be in today or not, I know we have a few people coming in to talk to us but I’m not aware of whether or not they’ll be particularly useful to the digital studying types like myself.  I’ll look into it. If we don’t have to, I’ll probably get crackin’ on some research. Although I’d like to organise it better than this. But my brain is mush right now and I am le tired.

Also, I might rewrite the plans at some point once I get a chance to read the timetable plan Rachel set out for us while working on Stina’s project. I should be able to read it on the Mac but I can’t do anything productive right now, I might break something.

So I’m off for a kip. Wake me in a few decades hours.

Pugs and Posters

OK so I got some new weird and wonderful things to share with you today. If you haven't noticed the invasion of doodlepugs on the blog title, well... you need to come here more often. But here they are in a nice row as well for your convenience.

Look at all the Muffins! Aren't they cute

And here, you'll see the new Crumbs teaser poster, complete with new title design AND a new character! Meet Jay. He's... quite an interesting character. More on him as the story progresses.

And HERE we have a whole new project that will be more experimental. It's a concept that I'll hopefully put into better detail once I've developed it more. But after some character sketches, I couldn't resist making a teaser poster.

If you have any comments or advice on the posters, please share them with me; I'd love to hear!

Tuesday 9 October 2012

Sketches, Doodles and Scribbles

Because I'm afraid to say I don't have much in terms of finished and/or coloured artwork to share juuuust yet. I'll get to it though, I intend to do some autumn themed pictures at some point. Maybe break out the pens for the first time in forever.

I've been very busy with quite a number of things, such as planning the Crumbs webcomic project, taking classes in dissertation writing, looking into some college animation projects, performing for a tap show from Sunday night till tomorrow and rehearsing for a play I'm involved in. It;s quite a bit that I've taken on and I need to find a way to organise everything and get stuff done. I certainly don't intend to let this blog fall by the wayside either. I assure you I'll update you all with everything art and animation related from me!

But for now, all I have are some sketches and doodles I did when I had spare time or was bored of taking notes. Or just bored. There are more but these ones are my favourites.

I'm hoping that I'll get more organised soon. Kat told me that she might be able to get me a diary so I can organise stuff better, which can only be useful. And then you'll all see super amazing progress from me and you'll be all like "Gee, that Emma sure is swell!"

... well, maybe not. But at least I'll be more productive. I also intend to rearrange the blog as well, get rid of some tabs and/or redo old ones. I want a tab specifically showing my progress into developing the webcomic, which will be portrayed through vlogs, research, sketches, colour experiments and all sorts. I want to document it all, from the initial ideas to website development to the finished comic. Let me know if you think that'll be a good idea! Personally I think vlogs will help me organise my thoughts better than scribbling them down. I'll probably just make them unlisted videos on YouTube though and only link them on this blog.

Well, I hope you enjoy the sketches and if you have any questions about my project or have some opinions or suggestions, please don't hesitate to share!

A Tad Excited

You know when you've got scraps of things you want to work on and then you get inspired and it all falls into place?

Yeah. That's happened to me.

I'm gonna get right to work on some concept art right this second. I am beyond excited to start working on this.

And I mean it. This one has nothing to do with pigeons. So if you're tired of them little shits, you'll be all over this like yellow on a banana!

Sunday 30 September 2012

Crumbs Webcomic and The Other Side

So yeah, maybe I should reveal what the big projects I've been yammering on about are.

What we have here is the teaser poster for a Crumbs short that I intend to work on throughout the year. I'd like to have a little something extra to add to my portfolio and show reel. And maybe something to pop on the ol' YouTube channel when it's done.

The story is basically about a pigeon, specifically Tweak, trying to get to the other side of the road without being squashed by cars. Of course he could just fly over but clearly that would be too simple. Certainly seemed to be the case for the pigeon that Ashleigh and I were watching a few days ago, which gave us this idea. I'm giving her credit as she gave me the idea for how it ends. And how will it end, you ask? Well you'll have to find out, won't you? Mmhmm.

And onto the main project.

I've mentioned a number of times, both on here and offline, that I've been intending to make Crumbs a webcomic. However I've never gotten to actually doing it because of reasons, specifically not having time around other projects, not being happy with the story and so on and so forth. I always bounce back to working on Crumbs because I'm never satisfied with how the previous version turned out and I know if I keep doing that, it'll only hinder my skills and opportunities.

So this year is the year to chance all of that. For the next few months, aside from working on proposals and dissertations, I am working out the story and the characters for good in order so that I can build up a buffer of pages starting in January before I officially release them online next Summer. That's the plan anyway, unless enough people try to convince me earlier. However, I think perhaps the best time to release the pages would be around Final Show in May. We'll see how that goes, I reckon.

I'd tell you guys more about the story buuut... eh, maybe later. Once I've gotten them new and improved character sheets done and dusted. I also intend to get some non-character designs and sketches done in order to plan for future potential projects in order to keep my other drawing styles and designs intact.

This is the year when Crumbs becomes a thing. And the year when I'll stop looking back.

Running In The Rain

It's my cousin's birthday and I created this little thing for her. Using a reference picture of her and her dog Shadow, I decided to have them running around having fun shenanigans. I don't know exactly where the whole rain motif came from but I'm assuming it was because of the crummy weather we've been having lately. We have a pond instead of grass in our back garden right now.

I've been told she's very happy with it, which of course makes me happy as well. Always want a satisfied... picture obtainer. Hurray! Now to add this to the ol' portfolio!

I'll be sure to update later this week with my college project ideas. I want to have some character designs done before I do so, otherwise it'll probably be a bunch of text and that's just unacceptable in this blog. Eww, words.

... oh, before I go, I need to share this. I seem to have a thing about pageviews when they reach a certain number order.

Thanks to everyone who ever popped by to have a look at my humble blog. Much appreciated. I love you all!

Some fanart I did of Zink and Stanley for Rachel Normand's awesome series, Lizard Cops. Also a chance to plug said series even though I've probably done that already SHUT UP, YOU AREN'T MY MOTHER

I'm totally drawing these guys again sometime. Mmyep.

SEE, I DO THINGS

Just a WIP of a birthday picture I'm working on. I figured I should show you guys something considering the last update was like, two weeks ago. Or something. Eheh.

Just a quick update of shenanigans for now: the Big Draw animation piece is now finished! I'm going to have a look at it some time next week before giving it to the client. I don't think we'll upload it until it's actually been screened so you'll still need to wait a while before you'll actually get to see it. So yeah, something fun to look forward to!

And also college has started again, to my immense joy and relief. I like the summer holidays and the long lie ins are lovely but eh, I was missing the college atmosphere and seeing everyone every day. And missing the mochas as well. I was surprised when the woman at the counter recognised me actually. I think that's a sign I've been going there too often. If that's wrong, I don't want to be right.

Things are ever so slightly different this time round however. Rather than animation specifically, I'm now a Creative Practice student and will also have the opportunity to collaborate with students from other creative courses, such as acting, media, web, dance, what have you. There's all sorts going on. And there are even LECTURES. No seriously, we didn't really have lectures in the Foundation course, at least not regular ones. So this is kind of new to me. Which is odd considering not only have I been a college student for two years now, I am technically a post graduate. I shall adapt though. It'll be interesting seeing people from different creative courses. And you never know, might make a contact! After all, it's the year to do that sort of thing!

Now, as for what I'm planning to do this year... weeeeell, I was GONNA say in this blog entry but I figure I should actually wait until after my one on one tuition session on Wednesday, where I discuss my project plans with a tutor. That way I don't tell everyone I'm working on this particular thing only to have to change it if the tutor decides I'd be better off doing something else. I will leave a couple of teeny hints for now.

One: webcomic with supporting animations of characters to introduce interactions and advertise them and the story.

And two:

... some of you will probably have figured it out from that.

I think Doctor Who will be on soon so I'll take my leave for now. Have a good 'un, chaps!

NO TIMMY

STOP

TIMMY

TIMMY NO

Pretty much done with my Big Draw frames. Gonna meet up with my buds tomorrow so we can share them and make whatever changes we need before we're happy with the animation and can focus on everything else, like sound and all that noise (aha, I made a funny).

BAD TIMMY, THAT'S A BAD TIMMY.

I'm a bad little robot...
You're a GROUNDED little robot.

Winging It

Hey, you!
Yeah you! Work the camera, you adorable pigeon!
Come oooon, you know you want to.
... I'll give you some of this doughnut?
... all of the doughnut?
... I didn't give it any of the doughnut. Might have been why it flew off in a huff. Such a diva.

Anyway yes, a couple of reasons why I have another entry so soon. The first is to show off this pointless video I made featuring many of the pigeons I've filmed on my phone. I just wanted to play around with footage and editing. I think I did an OK job considering I only spent an hour or two on it. I'd have spent more but this was just a means of procrastination really. I have stuff I REALLY should be getting on with!

And also this. The person who analyses the animation techniques in My Little Pony has released another video and this one I'll definitely find useful as it involves animating the wings of the pegasus ponies. It'll definitely help with making my pigeons' wing movements more fluid! Hopefully it'll help anyone who comes across this as well. This guy certainly knows what he's talking about.

And now back to animating! Pip pip!

... I want to be watching the Hunger Games DVD right now...
