I'm 21 and I Drewed.

So yeah, I'm now able to drink everywhere now, which is probably something people should keep an eye on. Got a lot of groovy presents, including a new Mac which I'll start using for college and animation and artwork once I get all the programs on it, spend time with my darling mother at the spa which I'm definitely doing again and got a buttload of money that I'm already blowing online buying lots of Brave, MLP and Stitch stuff. I won't regret this at all.

Oh, and I still need that Pug Life shirt. I'll get on that.

SPEAKING OF PUGS. So like, I come on here to upload a picture I worked on and am gonna put on my work area at college, right? WELL, I get distracted by this amazing piece of awesomeness and it took me a while to pick my jaw off the ground.

Artwork by Rachel Rutherford
YOU DON'T EVEN KNOW HOW FRIGGIN HAPPY I WAS TO SEE THIS. I mean, LOOK AT IT!

The colours all fit with my blog, the big doodlebug logo in the background, all of my darling pigeons in their pigeonness, Muffin being adorable with her little derp, me wearing all the Crumbs badges and doodling, it's just beyond perfect in every way. It's being printed out along with the picture I mentioned earlier so I can look at it and squee with joy and happiness. Thank you so much, Rachel! <3

... I should talk about the next thing but yeah, too busy staring at picture.

Still staring.

Staring...

...

Bluuuhhhhh.

OK, next thing!

Basically I saw a picture on tumblr with a little bird saying 'Don't think, just draw' and I decided that I wanted to so something similar with Blue. I experimented quite a bit with this one, changing a day scene to night (I always find myself more inspired when I should be sleeping) and redrawing Blue's pose a number of times.  I also wanted the caption to be there at first but on a whim, I tried to see what the picture looked like without it and was much happier with that result. It's called Blue Inspiration and I'm basically gonna use it as a means to look at when I'm dried up creativewise.

I also needed something different to draw than robots and boys for a moment. Getting right back to that though! *salutes*

I'm quite satisfied with this. However, feel free to leave any advice or critique you may have!

Now back to staring at Rachel's picture. Guuuhhhhhh...

Big Draw: The Apocalypse

Well hardly, just a giant robot rampaging a town. Although that would raise my eyebrow nonetheless.

I thought you would like to see some progress on the Big Draw brief that I've been working on with Ashleigh and Callum. We're breezing through it quite well, I reckon! We made it easier by deciding what parts of the animations we could work on individually. For example, I have been working on animating the giant robot rampaging through the town.

I did change the design of one character though because it was a tad hard for us to figure out how it worked. Hopefully that child won't kick our rumps too terribly hard. I need it for sitting.

Banana Strawberry pet known as Bappel. Ah, the things kids come up with...
Wish I had that sort of imagination at their age.
Callum has taken to animating that character, as well as a scientist. I'm unsure if he'll share the scenes while they're still in progress. Hopefully you'll be able to see it once it's complete. It'll be screened at the Big Draw festival I believe.

Anyway, onto the robot. The reference I was given by one of the kids at the drawing club in Darlington was this:

Artwork by... the kid that drew this.
I need to get their name, I suck.
Which led to the asset being this. I wanted to keep it as close to the original drawing as possible, although I'm assuming the left arm isn't permanently like that and is just posing in combat mode. Pure BAMF mode right there!

Hopefully they won't be too disappointed.
And here we have some frames of the robot in action. It wasn't specified what the robot's powers are (although maybe the retractable hand is a definite according to the original drawing) so I made a few things up, such as the levitating and glowing.

That little boy doesn't seem to be afraid! Maybe he can see that
the robot just needs some lo-
... ah. Never mind.
To anyone who's been following me for a while, you MIGHT recognise the little boy from one of my previous college projects. *coughstretchandscarecough*

Anyway, that's all I have to show you at the moment. I need to tweak the lip sync in the first part of the sequence and add a 'five seconds later' card and stitch the two together. And then animate a quick little part with the boy again. And then the separate robot rampage will be ready to stitch up with the other scenes. Can't wait to see them all together!

As of right now, I'm going to throw a small video together because why the hell not.

If I Could Be Where You Are

I've been busy! I have! Honest! I just can't show you any of it just yet. Because it's not to a standard I'm happy with, you know all that pizzle.

But I wanted to put SOMETHING on my blog, considering that I haven't in pretty much two weeks now. Sheer madness/sparta. And I remembered an image I worked on some time ago that I didn't want to reveal because it was a tad spoilerish to the Crumbs story but if I don't go into detail, it'll just be a teaser concept image. Works for me!

What does it meeeeaannn?

... well, don't look at me, I ain't gonna tell you squat!

I'm especially happy with this one because ot took me some time to get the shading right, the lighting, the frost, the transparency of the two pigeons... gahh, so much to take into account. It was a fun challenge for myself. The only thing I'm a bit meh on is Blue's breath coming out as if it's smoke. I'll need to practice a tad more on that sort of thing.

It's also a concept for an animatic/animation idea I might do based off of one of my favourite Enya songs. So yeah, hopefully that'll happen. I'm determined to make it happen.

Anywho, it's late an- OOH, today, my Pugs not Drugs t-shirt arrived! I was all over that! Can't wait to wear it and show off my swagger!

... oh yeah, so bed ti- OH NO ACTUALLY ALSO I saw Brave. AND IT. KICKED. ASS. Everything about it was perfect, it was better than anything I could have possibly dreamed. EVERYTHING. I intend to buy soooo much Brave stuff. You don't even know. You don't even...

... oh yeah. Bed is a thing. I should do that thing now.

After doing what I do best and pimpin' out this blog entry to Facebook and Twitter and also my new art tumblr.

Which is here. http://emmadonedoodled.tumblr.com/

YouTube Page

This isn't going to be long because it's after 4am and I'm knackered and I need to be up early in the morning and all the TV is showing now is teleshopping and I really need to sleep.

So I've finally got a YouTube channel! I've had one I've been using for a while but I didn't want to use that one professionally, maybe use that one for vlogging if I ever decide I'm interesting enough for that sort of thing. Plus all the videos were unlisted. But I'm not pussying out this time! They're public for all to see!

Hope you pop by and feel free to leave a comment. If you want to see more, click that subscribe button and I will love you forever!

So... that's pretty much it. I also hope to share some of the stuff I've been working on in the next few days but until then... *thud*

I'm So Social!

I'm on Facebook!

... well, ok, I was already on Facebook. But I'm talking about one of them thar fan pages. I figured I should stop boring all my friends on there that aren't interested in such things and instead bore those who are.

So if you have a Facebook of your own, get yourselves over there, like the page and you'll be up to date with all my animation, comic and illustration shenanigans!

https://www.facebook.com/EmmatureDoodlebug

The blog is still gonna be my main source of art and info and blardiblah; it's my baby after all! This is just another way to get my work out there. You might have noticed my twitter updates at the side of this blog as well. That's so I can share any life stuff that has nothing to really do with art and you can choose to look at it/ignore it at your will without having it shoved in your faces.

I also have a tumblr. But I honestly doubt anyone would be interested in that. Its basically reblogs of pugs, pigeons, doughnuts and shit I find funny.

As far as being productive... eeeh, that's kind of fallen by the wayside a tad. I've been ill all weekend and I slept pretty much all day yesterday. I haven't even gotten into the second box of badge refills for the Crumbs badges yet. I have finished 30 of the 60 refills so I'm halfway there at least! But yeah, still need to finish that as well as plan the story for Crumbs and do some sketches and work on the animatic I mentioned. Still want to do that. I also have ANOTHER animatic idea I want to do. Both of which are to songs btw. I'll fill you in on that later once they stop being brain children and the pencil actually gives birth to them.

... why the hell isn't animatic recognised as a word anyway? Everytime I type it, that little red line shows it's face. Up yours red line, you don't know nothin'!

So yeah, that needs to be planned out better. I should also sketch out Ginger Snaps concepts as well. But at least Muffin is getting some attention anyway. Here's some sketches of her so that I can at least show SOMETHING. I dunno if it's worth noting that I drew her while listening to the music played at the Olympics. Quite the contrast honestly.

Oh and I should note that a reference was used for most of these. Drawing pugs is new to me and I have much to learn! Don't be afraid to give any advice though.

And I also doodled me as a unicorn. I call her Doodlebug.

And uh... that's it as of right now. I might get some doodling done so that I can say I at least did something today. Still a tad groggy from being ill and whatnot. If I get more than that done then I won't complain!

So uh, yeah, check out my Facebook page, it's a little sparse right now but I hope to upload more to it soon and I hope you will like what you see. Thanks for popping by if you do!

Just Drawn That Way

Today is my auntie Tracy's birthday so it seemed more fitting to upload the piece today than it was a few days ago. Couldn't have her coming across it earlier and spoiling the surprise, could we?

I'm really happy with this. Apart from the occassional mistake, such as making the feet too thick and being a tad sloppy with some parts of the lineart, it's still one of my favourites. Definitely one for the portfolio.

Yeah, she requested something of a Jessica Rabbit getup. But I wanted to make it a bit personal as well, rather than just straight out copy said character. If you're reading this, have a happy birthday, Tracy! <3

Onto some other news, Ashleigh and I went and visited Stephanie, who was in charge of running the club for the kids doing the characters and sets for the Big Draw animation. It looks like we can do the majority of the piece in After Effects, only needing to change or add a few very small things. Very doable stuff so I'm looking forward to getting cracking with that. We also had a tour of her house. She has an art room with a serious business art desk. AND SHE HAS THE COMFIEST CHAIRS EVER. I'm totally having that stuff in my house, y'all can bet on it.

I also bought some sparkly MLPs, Tru Blood juice and found out that there's a cider in my name. All in all, a damn good day.

Oh, and I doodled this a couple of days ago. Totally gonna lineart and colour it. Mmhmm.

I like doughnuts.
